Rocky Basketball is pleased to announce two exciting programs sure to cure you basketball withdrawals these holidays.  Great value, loads of fun, and an excellent opportunity to stay active, whilst meeting new people, including some of your local Rockets and Cyclones stars.

On Monday the 2nd of July, we have our Young-Stars Fun Day for grade 1, 2, & 3 students.  The day runs from 10.00-4.30 and is only $10.00 (which includes a sausage sizzle and other handouts).

This is followed up on Wed 4th & Thurs 5th with our ‘Rising Stars’ Holiday Camp.  The morning sessions are for grade 3, 4, & 5 students and runs from 9.00-12.30 each day.  The afternoon sessions are for grade 6, & 7 students and run from 1.00-4.30 each day.  The cost of the camp is only $33.00 which includes coaching for the two days, a basketball, and a variety of other handouts.

 Young-Stars Fun Day               Rising Stars Holiday Camp

This Saturday sees at Hegvold stadium the return of the Stadium Nightclub Rockets and Hogs Breathe Café Cyclones up against local rivals Gladstone who also are league newcomers.

The Rockets recent triple-header road trip was very successful with major wins on all occasions allowing the Rockets to sit atop the ladder. .  The return of the previously injured Cameron Tragardh added more firepower to a team that is progressing well.  Jeff Gloger continues to impress and will undertake trials at NBL clubs over the coming weeks.  Gladstone’s roster includes Michael Kingma who is the biggest player in the league and will provide a challenge.  And being just down the road the rivalry between the clubs will be fierce. 

The Cyclones also had a successful week-end coming away with 2 big wins on the tough triple-header.  Combinations are coming together on the team with further improvement expected from the Cyclones.  Gladstone play hard and with enthusiasm attempt to carry them through.  The experience of the Cyclones may just tell in the end.

American Jeff Gloger has quickly gained a name for himself within the basketball ranks of Queensland after an explosive performance in Round 2 of the QABL. He takes out the Player of the Week Award after grabbing 41 points, 16 rebounds, 9 assists and 3 steals, only a fraction off a triple-double for the Rockets opening home game for the season. It wasn’t an easy task in the face of a very tough Townsville team, and as a result he has quickly become a crowd favourite in Rockhampton. He helped to move the team into their 2007 campaign successfully and will prove a real asset, playing alongside Tragardh, Thompson and Bullock. Elsewhere, Adam Darragh threw down with 39pts, 3rbs, 7asts for the Goannas in a tough loss to the Thunder; David Gurney of the Mountaineers with 30pts, 12rbs, 2asts but unable to get his team across the line; Dante Sykes of the Wizards grabs 29pts, 5rbs and 7asts to move his team into the number 1 position on the ladder; and Nathan Niesler of the Pirates helping his team go untouched at 3 and 0 for the year with 36pts, 10rbs, 1rb

Home Game against Logan

This Saturday sees the second home game of the season with the Stadium Nightclub Rockets and Hogs Breathe Café Cyclones clashing with league newcomer in the form of south Brisbane based club Logan.

The Rockets roster is still not complete due to injury to big man Cameron Tragardh but still put in a powerful performance against Townsville last week.    New guard Jeff Gloger was simply outstanding with 41 points and 16 rebounds, to the extent that a number of NBL clubs have shown interest in possibly recruiting him.  He is already a crowd favourite with his spectacular dunks.  Ben Thompson, Peter Bullock and Glenn Scott through his defensive prowess will be expected to make major contributions this week against Logan who boast ex Rocket import Thalo Green.   Logan will be confident after their recent defeat of Gold Coast.  

The Cyclones had a tough start to the season last week coming up against a highly motivated Townsville outfit.   This week will see an entirely different team with the inclusion of import guard Khalihah (car-lee-ah) who will control the game for the Cyclones.   There is too much talent including Australian Jenny Whittle on the Cyclones roster for it not to shine and it maybe Logan this week who feels the brunt.  Again won’t be an easy task with Logan women also beating Gold Coast last week.”
