Round 2 Game Previews
MEN a
Rockhampton Stadium Nightclub Rockets v.
Townsville McDonalds Heat
The big season opener for the Rockets with a real ‘all-star’ line-up hitting the court this year.  The Association has worked tirelessly in their recruiting and have been able to secure Ben Thompson from the Spartans, Cam Tragardh backs up for another year of fun, and Peter Bullock and Jeff Gloger join them as partners in crime…  This team will be a tough chew for any squad in the League and Townsville really have their work cut out for them, especially after a Round 1 loss on their books.  They will make the journey south on Friday and will have to bring their A-game after the long road-trip to come out on-top here.  One thing is a certainty though with the Heats Kruger in Hegvold Stadium…… it’s going to be loud!

WOMEN a

Rockhampton Hog’s Breath Café Cyclones v
Townsville Aubrey & Assoc. AMP Flames

The Rocky Cyclones open their account at home with a high profile team who were under-done and outperformed last week- the Townsville Flames.  Will this disappointing loss to Cairns spur them onto bigger and better things in Round 2, or is this all they have to offer?  The Cyclones will be packing a solid punch with Australian player Jenny Whittle at the helm looking to steer this squad onto National glory.  A rest in Round 1 gave the Cyclones the chance to work out ‘who’s got what’ in teams around the League, so they’ll know that Hill, Heilbronn and Wilson will be looking to slide it up into 5th gear early.

This Friday sees the long awaited season start for the Stadium Nightclub Rockets and Hogs Breathe Café Cyclones against powerhouse club Townsville.

The Rockets have bolstered their roster with the inclusion of NBL campaigner Ben Thompson along with talented point guard Jeff Gloger and rebounding ace Peter Bullock.   With a leaner Cameron Tragardh and bunch of other local talent the roster is looking very strong once again this year.  The aim is to improve on last years impressive performances but the Townsville side will be out to spoil the party.  In 2006 Townsville were the only side to beat the Rockets at home so there is a lot on the line come game time Friday night.

The 2007 Cyclones roster is possibly the best ever assembled.  Star recruit Jenny Whittle from the World Champion Opals will provide a massive presence on the court.  New guard recruit Khalihah Este-Shehu may not have her playing license in time for Friday’s game but if given the opportunity is expected to show skills after recent sessions with the WNBA.   New recruits Angela Garden and Lauren Hobson will make major contributions to the team.  Biancia Abbott returns with WNBL experience and along a group of talented locals will again be poised to defeat the WNBL-backed Townsville outfit as they did last year.  Townsville will be doubly focused after an unexpected loss last week-end.  So come on out early as the action will be intense.
